Jocko Willink: How to Become Resilient, Forge Your Identity & Lead Others | Huberman Lab Podcast 104

Halfway through, a two-session listen. It is the way with these podcasts, that you find yourself drawing strands together from other podcasts or lectures that connect common themes, and or, remind you of things you heard once before that resonated but didn't stick properly, but do now within a different context and a reminder.

The key though is being open to the fact that you and I for the most part don't know nearly as much as we think we do, be it hormones, body chemistry, mindset, sleep patterns, detachment ... pick a subject. You will always have moments of epiphany as you listen, and it's free because these guys have let down their coattails so you can hang off them. This format is the golden thread that runs through our social media society and is ultimately why common sense will prevail during these very mixed-up times.

John Vervaeke Ep. 10 - Awakening from the Meaning Crisis - Consciousness & Ep. 11 - Awakening from the Meaning Crisis - Higher States of Consciousness, Part 1

As will be seen by the previous posts, this series of lectures has been side-lined a little again. The thing is, that every time I return to them, I find something I missed on the first run-through, and there is so much to learn about yourself, our world, our cultural perceptions, consciousness, insight and how those things manifest, that to, not give them your full attention is pointless. Now to be fair to myself and these lectures, I have been extraordinarily busy at work, I am about to move home and have been spinning many other plates, including the still unresolved (barely started) issue of the half of the property I own with my now ex-partner of over a year.

These lectures deserve your full attention, If I can't give them that for continuity then waiting to continue is a better strategy. That isn't to say that the other stuff I have posted here is more important, it is as John Vervaeke has pointed out during these lectures, more salient at the time (and generally runs to a single digestible episode). I see a pattern developing in my watching, though I'm not entirely sure whether I am trying to awaken from the meaning crisis itself? Or trying to get a feel for the ebb and flow of humanity at large. This said it may be part of a greater fortification process that I am not entirely fully cognizant of at a conscious level, but at some deeper level am preparing for. And my spontaneous use of the word fortification is telling. I shall go away and ruminate

That is all.

Master Your Sleep & Be More Alert When Awake | Huberman Lab Podcast #2

As someone who has had a testy relationship with sleep on and off for years ... and the last eighteen months specifically, I found this extraordinarily useful. I also discovered that my innate senses had already put into practice many of the strategies discussed, low-level lights (floor lamps) in the evenings, redder light, early morning light, dropped off caffeine from 2pm onwards, and most recently (but for entirely different reasons) taking magnesium supplements, I just shifted them to evening uptake rather than just after or with lunch.

Recommended watching.

Perception: Chaos and Order | Dr. Karl Friston | #298

The title barely covers the subject matter. I don't have adequate words in a sentence or two to elaborate, but if you want to understand a little (or a lot) more about your brain, its chemistry and minimizing your entropy (disorder, randomness and uncertainty over time). And how to recognise states that either assist you in ameliorating entropy or identifying paths that will lead to greater entropy and then heading them off at the pass, then this is a podcast for you.

Lunatics running the climate asylum ... for profit.

This kind of idiocy genuinely beggars fucking belief. Make roofing materials white, have green roofs, cover public car parks with white materials or solar panels (or both), plant far more urban trees (and green spaces generally), have more running water in cities, and grow more tees around cities.

As opposed to brainstorming (excuse my language) Utter cuntfest magic thinking, years down the line unimplementable expensive fuckwittery on a biblically epic scale. All the solutions are already available, but instead, some wilfully ill-informed twat or twats are empire-building (read as grabbing a share of the money cake), to achieve fuck all that couldn't already be achieved by existing technologies.

Some excerpts:

1. The report floated the idea of spreading particles over the ocean at a cost of $100 per square mile. A one percent change in the reflectivity of the Earth would cost $500 million per year, which does “not seem excessive,” the report said, “considering the extraordinary economic and human importance of climate.”

2. Stratospheric aerosol injection would involve flying aircraft into the stratosphere, or between 10 miles and 30 miles skyward, and spraying a fine mist that would hang in the air, reflecting some of the sun’s radiation back into space.

3. Marine cloud brightening involves increasing the reflectivity of clouds that are relatively close to the surface of the ocean with techniques like spraying sea salt crystals into the air.

Remember, governments don't have any money except yours.
